The ATO is planning to host major system maintenance beginning on Thursday 13 April at 10.00pm EST and ending on Tuesday 18 April at 6.00am EST to install their new storage area network (SAN) to replace the old one which was involved in the outages in December 2016 and February this year.
At the Commissioner’s latest address to the Tax Institute, he mentioned the recent outages, “I should point out that none of our new online service offerings under our Reinvention Program contributed to these outages. It was purely the result of faulty equipment”.
This faulty equipment is now said to be under review and will undergo full investigation with forensic testing of the faulty SAN once the data has been shifted to the new one.
Their focusis now on providing stability, full functionality and capacity of all the systems as well as a new and better SAN system.
“We are taking a very measured and considered approach to minimise risks, to ensure that the experience of tax time 2016 can be matched, that we meet our commitments to government and that we offer you stability in our portal service”.
As for choosing the Easter long weekend, Jordan mentioned “From consultation, we understand these are the most sensible and least inconvenient times for the tax profession and the broader community”.
If the ATO can suffer from an outage, so could you. That’s why Agrimaster is now offering m:drive as part of your membership, so your files can be secure at all times.
